Changing Habits

When we’re making lifestyle changes, particularly if they’re big ones. Things can get overwhelming quite quickly. You might start with lots of motivation that quickly fizzles out when things become too hard, leaving you back where you started. We call this “boom and bust”.

While it might seem desirable or even necessary to make all of these big changes quickly, habit changing is far more sustainable if you take a slow and steady approach particularly at first. Choose one thing you would like to change and just focus on that for a few weeks. It may be increasing movement or eating a healthier breakfast. There will be days when you fall off the wagon and go back to your old ways but be kind to yourself and remember you can always start again tomorrow. After a little bit of time this one new change will become an ingrained habit and it’ll be time to look at the next change you’d like to make.
